Teaching Jobs Overseas? Easier Than You Think

Teachers in declining subjects such as modern languages, teachers exhausted and frustrated by the declining behaviour standards in schools today, and teachers facing job termination, may actually find the answer to their dilemma at the other side of the globe because international schools worldwide are looking for trained teachers. There are many opportunities to get teaching jobs abroad

There are over 5,000 international schools in almost every single country in the world, from the Bahamas to Madagascar and from Mongolia to Japan. Just last 2009, a total of 380 schools were opened according to the announced figures by ISC Research, the organisation that studies the developments in the international schools market. These schools are crying out for good staff and one of the first places they turn to are English speaking countries. English is not only the language of learning in international schools throughout the world, but the skills of highly qualified teachers are highly prized throughout the international school system. ”A teacher who has taught for several years in an English-speaking country can find teaching jobs overseas in any country they choose; they have limitless opportunities.”

Our source, Andrew, has many years of teaching experience, alongside his wife. Both were fortuitous enough to obtain international school teaching jobs in Europe and in other countries such as Austria and Columbia. ”We have both worked in some great schools and were able to travel to some terrific places. You can even have the chance of picking your own country because of the number of new schools that are opening. This allows teachers to easily get a job in an international school.” During their time abroad, both of their two children were born.

A number of international schools offer good accommodation, very competitive salaries, and a fast-track to career development as part of the package. It comes as no surprise that these foreign teaching jobs are attracting teachers from all age groups. A number of teachers on sabbatical, supply work, and teachers taking early retirement in this country are taking the opportunity of travelling the world this way.

International schools are renowned for their excellent resources, their small class sizes, and their exceptional facilities. However, a lot of UK teachers have yet to realise the opportunities available to them. Many teachers don’t know that there are temporary contracts, long-term supply prospects and the chance to move on to another post in another country after two or three years. The ability to speak a foreign language is actually one factor why a number of teachers do not apply sooner. That is not the case. It’s their teaching skills that are valued.
